An E-commerce sub-branding, but with better and optimized speed and performance.

Introduction

Avilé is a sub-branding of a famous E-commerce website in Denmark called ditur.dk. In this store, the client wanted to sell women’s jewelry of famous brands. The store mainly targets Denmark people and had a vision of being the best jewelry store in that region.

The main focus of this project was to provide a solution where the user has the best experience of E-commerce, so it has to be optimized and should have the best performance scores all around. The client wanted to have similar but optimized design patterns which they had on their main brand store i.e. ditur.dk. This involved providing a dynamic Mega-Menu, enhanced layered navigation and Search for catalog, enhanced mini-cart, order note feature, and many more.

Solution

Tech Stack:

Since the client’s main requirement was a fully optimized store, we thought of no better solution than Hyvä themes added on top Magento 2 framework. The theme is well known for its optimized and best user experience score and therefore we planned to pick this theme as our main stack.

Mega-Menu:

To provide a fully dynamic Mega-Menu, which a normal backend user can easily customize with just a few clicks, we chose an already existing open-source Magento 2 extension Snowdog_MegaMenu https://github.com/SnowdogApps/magento2-menu. The main problem here was that this extension was not compatible with Hyvä themes. So, we first made this extension Hyvä compatible under the client’s ownership and then also customized its frontend according to the requirements.

Enhanced Layered Navigation and Search:
The client wanted to have an enhanced experience of user for layered navigation where the user can apply multiple filters in the shape of checkboxes and also a price filter in the shape of a slider. Magento’s default doesn’t provide this feature. However, there is an excellent Magento 2 package Mirasvit_LayeredNavigation https://mirasvit.com/magento-2-extensions/layered-navigation.html which is also Hyvä compatible provided almost all these required features, so we just have to work on making it compatible with our child theme.

Similarly, to enhance the user search experience for the catalog, we installed an extension from the same vendor, Mirasvit_SearchUltimate package https://mirasvit.com/magento-2-extensions/elastic-search-ultimate.html. This provides instant search results on the go without having to redirect to the search result page. And of course, the package was Hyvä theme compatible.

Enhanced Mini Cart feature:

There was a requirement to have the ability to increase/decrease the cart item quantity on the mini cart without redirecting. The default Hyvä themes mini cart does not provide this feature. So we enhanced it to have the ability to increment/decrement the cart item qty with the help of GraphQL.

Order Note:

There was a requirement to have the ability to add an order note with the order, which can help in better order management and delivery to the customer. Nexius provides an excellent Magento 2 extension for this Nexius_OrderNote and is available for absolutely free at https://marketplace.magento.com/phpstudios-order-note.html. We made it Hyvä themes compatible and also placed the order note form location on the cart page instead of the checkout page, as per the requirement.
